Historical Trends Summary
The Sims 4 is well known in popular culture for its quirky language and famous green crystal. The game has steadily received constant updates and DLC's to keep the game fresh for players, so that every session they can undergo a totally unique playthrough. This is reflected in the games historical article county, which after launch quickly dipped, but slowly built up coverage as time went on. Interest in the title took off during the COVID-19 lockdowns, where interest in videogames went mainstream as people stuck at home were looking for new ways to pass the time. The game enjoys a high historical rating of 0.90 and has continued to hit new hights in article coverage across gaming news outlets.
Additional Observations
Prior to its launch, the Sims franchise was well established within the gaming community, with its previous title 'Sims 3' being a large hit for its at the time high quality graphics and custom build capabilities. After building continuous hype up to its launch, its article count reached its first all time high of 42 articles with a respectible sentiment score of 0.81, which is notably below its historical average.
The games coverage in gaming news outlets dropped precipitously following its lauch and remained so for the next three years until the release of its vampire DLC which was immensely popular amongst its female player base. Futher releases onto console further pushed its popularity, with the the eventual catalyst pushing it to new highs being the COVID-19 lockdowns, when gaming became a popular pastime. Since 2021, the gane has set new all time highs on three occassions, with the current high being 89 articles in July of 2023, coinciding with the release of the Horse Ranch update, allowing users to own and maintain horses.
For the last two years, sentiment of the game has held relatively consistent, dropping only marginally below 0.80 on only two occassions, and almost reaching a perfect score of 1.0 on four seperate occassions. It is likely that this trend will continue for the considerable future until plans of a next install me is announced, which would reduce overage of the current title, similar to its effect on 'Sims 3'.
