Historical Trends Summary
Despite only being announced in October of 2011, speculations of Rockstars next GTA title began swirling around the media as early as mid-2009, when IGN's Jim Reilly published an article titled "Analyst: New Grand Theft Auto In Development" which was published several months before other sources began their coverage. As the game boast an extensive history and lasting community interest, over 3,200 articles have been written aboout GTA V and its popularity in gaming media has remained consistent since launch.
Additional Observations
Grand Theft Auto V has enjoyed consistently positive coverage throughout the media before and after its launch, reaching a perfect score of 1.0 on at least once and close to it on multiple occassions. Only from 2017 to mid-2019 did sentiment begin to falter, hitting a low as 0.42 in January 2019 which may largely be attributed to the lull in press coverage during this same period.
The monthly article coverage has gone through several phases of activity thoughout its extensive history. Article counts were low and infrequent leading up to its official announcement in late October 2011, which coincided with its first spike of 37 articles in a month and its second official trailer in November 2021 which also hit 37 articles that month. The largest single month in the games history was its launch in September 2013, with a remarkable 125 articles and respectable sentiment score of 0.83, just marginally under its historical average. Following a second spike with the release of its PC port of the game, coverage began to decline from 2015 up until 2020, when its "Expanded & Enhanced" version was announced bringing gameplay enhacements and performance updates. This updated coupled with reduced pricing and a focus on its multiplayer mode GTA V Online, brought renewed interest to the game and it had continued to increase its coverage ever since.

With an average historical sentiment of 0.86, it is not unsurprising that most of the gaming news outlets hover within this score, with Game Rant producing the highest postive sentiment at 0.89. The only exception to this is PCGamer at 0.78, which is considerably lower than its peers.
Additional Observations
Eddie Makuch, the most most published journalist covered on Game Sentiment* from Game Spot, was by far the most active author for GTA V at 317 articles, almost 10% of all articles published on this title. The second most publish author for GTA V, Zack Zwiezen (164 articles) at Kotaku, barely reached half the amount of Eddie. Luke Plunkett (120 articles), also from Kotaku the fifth most published journalist covered at Game Sentiment*, was the only other author to reach over 100 articles for GTA V.
Game Rant currently holds the highest average sentiment at a score of 0.89, although it is followed closely behind by IGN at 0.88. Kotaku. The news outlets Gamespot and Kotaku at 0.87 and 0.85 hover just around the historical sentiment score, with only PCGamer noticeably lower at 0.78
Despite only comprising 18.1% of all the articles published covering GTA V, Game Rant comprises nearly 38% of all authors that have written about the game. Even more remarkably, although Game Rant and PCGamer comprise the lowest portion of published articles, they represent 2 of the articles of the top three for each of the highest and lowest sentiment authors. Notably, James O'Connor (12 articles) from Gamespot was the only author to report a perfect score of 1.00, while Ryan Dinsdale (13 articles) from IGN reported a score of 0.44, by far the lowest. Since scores tend to polarize on opposite sides of the sentiment score scale, authors must have published a minimum of 10 articles to be considered for the ranking.
